The pandemic has forced many restaurants to pivot and join thousands of takeaways to use delivery platforms. Many of these businesses are now selling on multiple delivery platforms, their own online ordering system, as well as in-person.

This brings potential challenges for bookkeeping and reporting. However there are options for automation.

Although no direct accounting integrations are available from the main delivery platforms, transactions can first go through a POS system and enter cloud accounting ledgers via the POS accounting integrations.

Having a POS alongside using delivery platforms is common in this industry. However, many of the POS systems that have delivery platform integrations do not have accounting integrations, which restricts the options available for automation.

The options

Goodtill
  • Delivery integrations with Uber Eats, Deliveroo, as well as their own online ordering system.

  • Accounting integrations with Xero, QuickBooks, and FreeAgent.

Following their acquisition by SumUp, GoodTill has significantly increased its integrations, so it’s likely Just Eat will also soon integrate.

Lightspeed / Deliverect
  • Delivery integration with deliverect which integrates with all 3 major delivery platforms.

  • Lightspeed Retail / Restaurant has accounting integrations with Xero, QuickBooks Online, and Sage Business Cloud.

Epos now
  • Delivery integration with Deliveroo.

  • Accounting integrations with Xero, QuickBooks Online, and Sage Business Cloud.

Square / Deliverect
  • Delivery integration with deliverect which integrates with all 3 major delivery platforms.

  • Direct accounting integration with Xero, plus integration with Shogo which supports QuickBooks Online, Xero, Sage Business Cloud, and Exact

Revel / Deliverect
  • Delivery integration with deliverect which integrates with all 3 major delivery platforms.

  • Integration with amaka which supports Xero, MYOB, and QuickBooks Online.

Foodics / Deliverect
  • Delivery integration with Deliveroo, as well as deliverect which integrates with all 3 major delivery platforms.

  • Accounting integration with Xero and QuickBooks Online.

API

If you did not want to go down the POS route, or none of the options met the requirements, then accounting integration via API is possible. At this time deliverect does not have any direct accounting integrations, but it does boast a sophisticated API that could facilitate integration.

Other considerations

  • Whilst delivery integrations are an important consideration in this sector, they should be considered amongst a wider scope of functional requirements.

  • All integrations and wider functionality should be thoroughly tested to ensure requirements are met before any commitment is made.
