Accounting software provider iplicit has released a new guide, *Where’s My Data?*, which sheds light on the challenges finance teams face in locating essential financial information across multiple systems and departments. Presented in the style of a children's puzzle book, the guide introduces "Guru Guy," a cartoon character who helps illustrate the often complex search for accurate and comprehensive data.

The guide uses humor to tackle a serious issue: the difficulty of obtaining a real-time, holistic view of organisational finances. According to *Where’s My Data?*, vital financial information is frequently hidden across outdated systems, scattered spreadsheets, or even individual in-trays. This disconnect can leave finance teams without the confidence that they have all necessary data at hand, potentially leading to wasted time, compliance risks, and decision-making based on incomplete information.

Readers are taken on a journey through "islands" where financial data may be isolated, such as Sales, Customer Relations, Delivery, and Stock. The guide also highlights potential causes of “hidden figures havoc,” including disconnected platforms, conflicting departmental systems, and reliance on manual processes, all contributing to what it calls the “Sea of Spreadsheets.”

To assist organisations in evaluating their own data completeness, *Where’s My Data?* includes a checklist for finance teams to assess potential gaps in their financial information. The guide is available for free download from iplicit’s website.
